In 2002,I picked up the local newspaper not knowing it would Change my life. I read an article about a woman named Mavis Moore. She was in Jamaica and needed medical care. She was shocked when she went to the hospital and found they lacked basic equipment. They could not even check her blood pressure. Instead of complaining she wanted to help solve the Problem. She started a non-profit named MEDICAL OUTREACH MISSION. I was impressed and inspired by her action. I had previous missionary experience and found it satisfying. I had decades of experience in a NYC Major teaching hospital. I wanted to share my talents with MOM. I also wanted to get out Of my comfort zone. I gave Mavis a call and 18 years later Here we are. On one trip to Jamaica,I found myself in a van with 17 refugee Children under 5 years old. I began to sing to calm them and myself. I see skies of blue and clouds of white... And I think to myself What a wonderful world These children all could have drowned a few minutes before. They were rescued by a group of fishermen as their boat Capsized. I am grateful for this experience and many others During my years with MOM. It's challenging work! Kathleen Burton
